Minecraft Game Design & Programming for Kids (9–12) in Berlin
In an AI-shaped world, children should move from simply playing digital worlds to understanding how systems and code create them. Minecraft turns a familiar environment into a serious space for game design, programming and systems thinking — ending with a portfolio your child has designed, coded, tested and improved.
What your child will learn
- Build five playable worlds: Sandbox, Puzzles, RPG, Arcade and Simulation
- Program with MakeCode using loops, conditions, variables, sensors and events
- Create narrative, progression, automation and player-feedback systems
- Model, texture and animate a custom 3D creature in Blockbench
- Playtest, debug, balance and present a portfolio of finished game worlds
Course content
Module 1. Fundamentals + Spatial Design
World 1: Sandbox and Minecraft Education setup. The MDA game-design framework and developer roles, NPCs, dialogue and Worldbuilder tools, coordinates, commands and efficient building, atmosphere, colour, lighting and materials — with a self-check, export and completion of the first world.
Module 2. The Agent: Puzzle Lab
World 2: puzzles using the Agent and MakeCode. Algorithms, sequences, loops and optimisation, sensors, Boolean logic and conditionals, automation, redstone and puzzle mechanics, plus a first introduction to Python with peer playtesting.
Module 3. RPG Adventure + Narrative
World 3: an RPG with player choice and missions. Variables, quest state and progression, JSON, VS Code and branching NPC dialogue, and environmental storytelling with a narrative playtest.
Module 4. Arcade + Progression Systems
World 4: an arcade world with parkour and game physics. Scoreboards, triggers and event feedback, checkpoints, teleportation and power-ups, and difficulty curve, balance and a tournament playtest.
Module 5. Simulation + Full Customisation
World 5: a simulation with an original creature concept. Blockbench 3D modelling, texturing and animation, exporting a resource pack into Minecraft, needs and behaviour systems with basic AI logic — closing with Launch Day: final presentation and portfolio.

- Group size
- Maximum 12 in person, 6 online, or one-to-one.
- Format
- Online or in person with Minecraft Education, MakeCode, Blockbench and dialogue tools. Students rotate through the Developer, Level Designer, Environment Artist and Systems Designer roles.
- Duration
- The course covers 32 lessons of 90 minutes each.
